MOHESR Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage

Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

The Cultural Division of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates will cover all necessary and emergency medical and dental expenses incurred in the United States.

You will receive a medical card from your Academic Advisor. This card is extremely important should you require any medical procedures.  Should you require any medical or dental treatment, the first step is choosing a physician. One way to choose a physician is by asking your roommate or classmates if they have a doctor. Another way may be to call the college infirmary or ask the school nurse. The International Student Office at your institution can also help you find a doctor.

After choosing your physician, the first thing you will be asked at the doctor’s office is, “Do you have insurance?” You should respond yes, stating your medical costs are included in your scholarship and are paid by the Embassy. Present your medical card to your doctor/dentist prior to any treatment. Upon receiving this card, your doctor/dentist should contact this office to request authorization and our financial guarantee of payment prior to providing any treatment, so the sooner you can submit it to your medical care provider, the better. The Embassy will pay for the services rendered by the doctor.

Some doctors may not be familiar with our medical card, and your coverage through the Embassy is not common in the United States, so the doctor or his/her staff may be hesitant to accept the card at first.

If this happens, ask them to call 1-877-862-7223 ext. 4448 or 202-243-4448 from 9am-4pm to confirm the coverage.  If they don’t get through right away, discuss the options.  Explain that what you have is not insurance coverage in the traditional sense; rather, we cover ALL necessary medical expenses.  There are no premiums, no co-payments, and no maximums.  If you can afford to pay and be reimbursed, and it’s urgent, and they won’t help you without speaking to us, you can pay out-of-pocket and get reimbursed.  Or, you can make another appointment after they speak with the Cultural Division office.  If they continue to give you trouble, take your business elsewhere.  The doctor is providing a service for which s/he is getting paid, and if they do not give you what you think is professional customer service, you can find a doctor that will.

We will also pay up to $215.00 for new eyeglasses (frames) and corrective (contact) lenses once during the period of your scholarship, and up to $100.00 each year for corrective (contact) lenses upon a written prescription from a physician.
