UAE University in Brief

The UAE University (UAEU) in Al Ain was established in 1976 through Federal Law 4, 1976 by the kind initiative of then President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as a national institution of higher learning for the citizens of the United Arab Emirates. UAE University first class in the 1977/1978 academic session was a modest 502 students enrolled in the University’s 4 faculties.

UAE University was originally established with only 4 faculties but has since grown to the current 9 faculties offering studies at the bachelors, masters, and doctorate level in various fields of study, as well as continuing education programs. UAEU currently has a student population of more than 12,000 students of which 24% are males and 76% are females.  In 2010 it has 700 faculty members and visiting scholars, of which most are at the Al Ain campus.


UAE University serves as the United Arab Emirates’ premier national university, providing the highest quality post-secondary education in the arts, sciences, and technology to meet the needs of the Emirati society. UAEU combines state of the art teaching and research facilities and the best qualified educators so their students may have the most productive learning experience and environment. UAEU aims at producing a dynamic generation of Emiratis who are locally trained but ready to globally compete towards contributing to the nation’s cultural, social, and economic development.
